Nathan’s Story
Hi, I’m Nathan Hodge, Director of Hodge Town and Country Builders. This is my story.
Growing up and raised in the small country town of Goondiwindi Qld, as somewhat of a bush kid, I came from a generation of family builders. My grandfather had a reputable building business in the area for many years with whom my uncle worked for, building anything from penthouses to outhouses. I took interest in the building trade at a young age, sometimes labouring after school or on weekends for my grandfather on and off.
After finishing high school in Bowen, North Qld I returned to Goondiwindi to live on a friend’s family property 25km out of town where I was to be for the next 6 years. I then commenced work with a local agricultural contracting company for a period of 2 years, to then realise I still had the burning desire for building and construction. This saw me start on my journey through taking a position as a concreter/labourer for a small local concreting company for 2 years. Still, not fulfilled with what I wanted to achieve in my career, I then pursued an apprenticeship with a small local building company that, little did I know then, was going to mould me in my future career.
The builder I was employed by was a genuine, honest, hardworking, old school, gentleman who unbeknown to me, was to instill these exact traits in me. We worked on a vast variety of jobs, the majority being older homestead renovations on cattle, sheep and grain properties within a 300km radius of Goondiwindi. We did not have the luxury of calling on sub trades a lot of the time, which in turn, left me to learn all the aspects of the build; roofing, tiling,
re-stumping, concreting, plastering and some plumbing – which is rare to come across these days.
After six years of employment with the man who was to mould me in my career, I decided it was time for a change and moved back to North Queensland and worked as a subcontractor for multiple different construction companies, this would broaden my knowledge in the industry. It was in Bowen, I met my now lovely wife Megan and this is where I then found the final motivation and support to bite the bullet and get my Open Builder’s Licence. From this, Hodge Town and Country Builders Pty Ltd was born. We were married in 2014 and 12 months later we welcomed our son Clancy into the world. The business continued to grow and so did our family, in 2019 we had our little girl, Wynnie.
From the day I started Hodge Town and Country Builders, I wanted it to be like no other, providing a specialised service to those in rural and remote areas with all aspects of building, but mainly homestead renovations which is my passion. Our team has built many high end, large scale jobs including commercial, residential, rural and industrial. From over million dollar plus pub renovations to $20,000 sheds, our knowledge and trade ability has been broad and has seen us cover some challenging jobs in which we always succeed and deliver a quality product.
Spare time and some weekends see me hunting, fishing or spending time at home with my family. Whether it be at home on our acreage block playing with the animals (a few head of cattle, pigs and some pan lickers) or out in the boat fishing the Great Barrier Reef or down the hut crabbing.
Our hardworking team, including my family, are part of our foundation and deserve all the recognition that comes their way. We all share a lot of the same passions, on and off the site. The professionalism in their trade, speaks for itself and in the wonderfully presented builds that we have achieved so far in North and Central Queensland.
So there you have it, our magic story so far. In hearing it, I hope to enlighten you a little on how Hodge Town and Country Builders Pty Ltd came to be and what we are about.
